¿POR QUÉ LA MARIPOSA ES EL SÍMBOLO INTERNACIONAL DEL LINFEDEMA?

Poco a poco la mariposa se está convirtiendo en un símbolo reconocido a nivel internacional para la concienciación del linfedema y el movimiento de inspiración que hay detrás de ello. La transformación de la mariposa representa el viaje del linfedema en los últimos años, desde la obscuridad completa a la luz progresiva de la concienciación que empieza a brillar sobre esta poca reconocida y tratada patología.

Buscando la historia detrás de este símbolo encontramos algunas teorías interesantes, pero todavía no sabemos a quién dar las gracias, por este rayo de luz en nuestra experiencia con linfedema. La búsqueda continúa, pero mientras tanto esto es lo que hemos encontrado hasta el momento:

• Es un símbolo de coraje y esperanza de futuro del paciente.
• El capullo representa nuestra compresión y la mariposa nos inspira a mirar hacia fuera en busca de belleza y libertad.
• La mariposa es un símbolo de la transformación
• El "Desplegar  Nuestras Alas" es un símbolo de ser libres para volar
• La exquisita mariposa nos anima a no quedar atrapados, que podemos crecer
• Representa la mente y nuestra capacidad de cambiar cuando necesario.
• Mariposas representan el ciclo sin fin de la vida, la capacidad de auto-transformación.
• La mariposa nos enseña que el crecimiento y el cambio no tienen por qué ser traumáticos. Los cambios pueden suceder con tanta tranquilidad y alegría como uno desee.

WHY IS THE INTERNATIONAL SYMBOL FOR LYMPHEDEMA A BUTTERFLY?

Gradually the butterfly is becoming an internationally recognized symbol for lymphedema awareness and the inspirational movement behind it. The transformational butterfly represents the journey of lymhedema over the years, from complete obscurity to the gradual light of awareness that is beginning to shine on this largely unrecongnized and under-treated epidemic.

Searching for the history behind this symbol we´ve found some interesting theories, but we still don't know whom to thank for this bright spot in our lymphedema experience. Our search continues, but in the meantime this is what we've found so far:

• It´s a symbol of patient's courage and hope for the future.
• The cacoon represents our compression and the butterfly inspires us to look outside for beauty and freedom
• The butterfly is a symbol of transformation
• The "Spreading Our Wings” is a symbol of being free to fly
• The exquisite butterfly encourages us not to get  stuck , that we can develop
• It represents the mind and our ability to change it when necessary.
• Butterflies represents the never-ending cycle of life, the ability of self-transformation.
• The butterflies teach us that growth and change do not have to be traumatic. Changes can occur as gently and as joyfully as one wishes.
